Alcoa High School Class of 1968 40th Reunion!!!
It is hard to believe that it has been almost 40 years since we graduated from high school…even though it seems like only yesterday. Can you remember when we were young and carefree and the biggest decision we had to make was whether to read the entire book for Mrs. Crowley’s class, or just get the Cliffs Notes!
Because we didn’t want this occasion to pass by without some level of celebration, a “Volunteer Reunion Committee” was recently formed to plan for meaningful events around our 40th anniversary reunion. So that we can better communicate the details of those events among our classmates, we have established a Website to access: http://alcoahigh68.myevent.com We encourage you to visit this site to register, complete the poll and check back often for the latest information. One of the initial tasks to prepare for the reunion has been locating classmates. We’ve created and continue to update almost daily a classmate directory with the information we’ve gathered thus far. This directory is on the front page of this website. While most of our classmates have been located, there remains a significant amount of work to do to ensure that we’ve communicated with everyone. To that end, we can certainly use your assistance. The reunion events, along with the costs for each, are listed below. We have negotiated to get the best rates and to select facilities and menu items that are as cost effective as possible that will also lend to an enjoyable event.
· Friday evening, Aug. 29, 2008 - Attend the Alcoa vs. Maryville football game at Maryville High School. Based upon your request, we will purchase tickets (2007 season: $5.00 each), make arrangements to meet around 5:00 PM and be at the gates when opened with hopes of sitting together. It has changed since we were students! Additionally, we have requested a public recognition of our class during the pre-game announcements and possibly other pre/post game events in the works to be finalized.
· Saturday evening, Aug. 30, 2008 – We will have a buffet dinner at the Airport Hilton on Alcoa Highway at 6:00 PM. Following the dinner and the standard “Reunion Program and Remarks,” you can “shake your booty” on the dance floor and visit among classmates to catch up on the last 40 years. The buffet will offer a choice of 3 meats, an assortment of vegetables, breads, dessert and beverages. The total cost is $50 per person to cover all costs involved for the evening. Our deposit to reserve the facility has to be taken care of and each classmate who plans to attend the dinner is asked to send a minimum of $25 deposit per attendee, any balance by August 1. A cash bar will be available. The preference of dress vote: Sunday dress. · Sunday afternoon, August 31, 2008 – Get together for our classmates and their families at the Louisville Point Park Pavilion from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Again, this will be a casual time to talk with those classmates you’ve missed for the last 40 years. We have made arrangements with a local caterer who is offering us a pulled pork barbeque plate; $9.50 for adults and $6.50 for kids under 12, including tea and dessert. If possible, bring along your lawn chairs!
Because we have to provide a deposit to the Hilton and to the caterer, we ask that you: Complete the RSVP page, reservations request received in the mail and return the request along with the appropriate payment based on your plans and the number of your attendees by the August 1 deadline to Cathy Lyle Ecker. We are excited by the enthusiastic response thus far from our classmates about the upcoming events. We are hoping for a tremendous turn out, fun, laughs and just having a really good and memorable time!
